And the Ottawa Senators are proud to select...

Let's face it, if you've ever played rec league hockey I'm sure the thought has crossed your mind on how cool it would be to lace them up in the NHL. For the 99.9% of you who are reading this, the league may have passed us by, but you can still live out the dream and get your mug on a hockey card.

I ordered 250,000.

And the back...

A great cause....Period.

I can't run more then 3 minutes without getting tired, a buddy of mine and his better half are running around the globe...

OTTAWA COUPLE TO RACE 16 HALF IRONMAN TRIATHLONS FOR CHARITY

"WE AGREED TO WHAT?"

We both seemed to feel that way for the first few minutes after we realized what exactly we had agreed to do the night before. See, we had wanted to create a challenge that we could attempt that was so crazy, so "out there" that it would dwarf any awareness campaign that either of us had ever participated in. There is no way we had agreed to compete in 16 Half Ironman Triathlons? Certainly not in 12 different countries and on 5
different continents! Most definitely NOT in only 8 months? We sure did!

Brian Doan and Heather Thomson, two Ottawa athletes are passionate about two things: Triathlons and causes that hit close to home.

Brian, a Testicular Cancer survivor is fulfilling his 'obligation of the cured' by continuing to challenge himself beyond the battle with cancer. " Ten years ago, I pushed myself through treatments to get better. Now, I continue to push myself to the extreme in challenges like this so I can bring awareness to Testicular Cancer and the need for early detection and a cure".

Heather, who's only sister was involved in a horrific car accident in 2005, knows that our global community knows very little about Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). "Many thought we should just walk away from Tammy... they said there was no hope. This summer at the cottage, Tammy and I sang around the campfire just like we used to when we were kids."

While Tammy has realized some major improvements, she still requires 24/7 care, and has many challenges ahead of herself. Each ABI case is unique, but they have one major thing in common: the road to recovery is a long one that requires a lot of patience, strength and support. The more we learn, the more we realize that we do not know enough about ABI.

We decided to use our love for triathlons as the perfect vehicle to reach the masses. In our minds, one triathlon would not suffice..nor would two or three. We needed to make it a record, something, which no one in his or her right mind would do.

Our challenge: compete in 16 Half Ironman Triathlons in 12 Countries on 5 Continents in 8 Months with 1 goal: AWARENESS.

Santa and Buzz.

If you've ever listened to TGOR for more then 5 minutes you know that Buzz hates people.

When I found that the bosses forced him to make an appearance at this weekend's Help Santa Toy Parade, well let's just say I needed to see it for myself. Yup, there he was smiling waving at the kiddies and hamming it up with Spartacat. After the Sens 3-0 loss to the Leafs later that night, I'm convinced that Buzz screwed with the Sens karma and needs to go back to not opening his door on Halloween, not putting up Christmas lights and being the thorn in the side of Sens fans all over Ottawa and the Valley.

How many people do you know that smile when getting a choke hold?

If the Garlic King ever goes down due to injury, this is his backup.

So while Buzz and I were at the daytime parade, our resident Mayor Steve Warne was entertaining his constituents with witty commentary at the Barrhaven parade of lights. I don't have an official transcript from the event but I'm sure he did a condensed Blue Team elimination watch for all the kids.

As for our fine producer Kenny, he didn't take part in any of the parades, but our sources said he was seen drinking at many of the Byward Market establishments.

More Sens tickets to win this week.

True class.

We had the chance to speak with former Habs Rejean Houle and Yvan Cournoyer this week on TGOR as we get set for the 10th annual celebrity sports dinner this coming Tuesday.

(You can listen to both here http://www.team1200.com/audio/index.asp)

I've been fortunate enough to meet almost every member of that 70's Habs dynasty squad (with the one exception being Ken Dryden) and all I can say is these guys carry themselves like the hockey legends that we expect and never disappoint. I chased Henri Richard into the can at the Bell center once for an autograph and he was more then happy to oblige....once he finished. Most of these guys who played in a former life are showing up everywhere these days. Charity events, corporate gigs, restaurant openings and when they walk in a room everyone notices. Be sure to listen in Monday morning for Steve Shutt and a treat for Bruins fans Tuesday morning. Later that afternoon, Team 1200 will be live from the Civic Center Salons with plenty more interviews from the sports dinner.

Now, speaking of class...despite a Sens loss to Washington the other night, full credit to Alex Ovechkin for coming out during the 3 star selection and to the Ottawa crowd for cheering him. The same thing happened last week when Bruins goalie Tim Thomas came out and got a warm reception from the crowd at Scotiabank Place (Why the NHL doesn't make this mandatory is beyond me). Regardless of how much someone paid to come and see you, come out and acknowledge the crowd who's essentially paying your hobby for 8 to 10 years. It's 10 seconds out of your night, regardless of the score.

Heads up: More Sens tickets to win next week and listen to round 2 of our newest contest - "The Obnoxious Rock DJ"...

To quote one of our regular emailers (Bill President, Bring Back Fix the Facts/ Retired President Anti Yes/No Faction)

Have a great Remembrance Day weekend. On Sunday, take time to remember the sacrifices of our soldiers both past and present.
