Merry Christmas from the Sens..

10 years for CHEO

As a lead up to this year's CHEO Telethon on CTV, I shamelessly wrote on Twitter "If I get to 10 thousand followers, I'll donate $1,000 to CHEO". Why more followers? It's an ego thing and the more people following you, the closer you are to world domination (Lady Gaga has 10 million followers) By Sunday, my count was around 3700 so I decided to donate the money regardless. CHEO has always been there for our kids and my wife and I are grateful to have it in our community.

It was after that conversation that we decided to make this commitment to CHEO for the next 10 years. Congrats to this year's telethon for raising a record 6.3 Million and thanks to all of you who helped make that happen. It's your bake sales, golf tournaments, galas etc that achieve that kind of success.

Costco and CHEO

6.1 Million dollars was raised at this weekend's CHEO telethon.

1 million came in courtesy of Costco about 5 minutes before the end of the show.

I wondered on Facebook last week if I should renew my membership and when I saw that amount my mind was made up. As a consumer I'm trying to shop with companies that give back to the community. When tourists come to town and want to see the Royal Canadian Mint you could send them to Costco, but the bottom line is they came in, made a big splash and handed over a million dollars.

There are hundreds of businesses throughout our region that support CHEO but congrats to the store where I can get a year supply of Tide for stepping up. I still don't like having my receipt signed, but I'll continue shopping at a place that gives back.

Sens and CHEO

When the Senators kicked off their season against the Penguins in Sweden, I was the PA announcer for both games. The NHL handed out tracksuits to those working down at ice level, and the one in the photo is mine. The Sens signed it for me so it could be auctioned off for charity.

I chose CHEO.

As a parent of two young kids, just knowing that we have that kind of place in our neighbourhood is something I don't take for granted.

On Monday night, I auctioned this off at the 10th annual CASCO fashion show, put on by business students at the University of Ottawa. The jacket fecthed $1300 from Johnny Hunt (who co founded the long running CHEO BBQ many years ago) In their 10th year, CASCO has raised a quarter of a million dollars for CHEO. Special thank you to the Sens for signing it, and to Gaston at Malen Framing for donating the frame as well!
