Minor hockey good cause....

LMHA YEAR END PARTY
PROCEEDS GOING TO THE SAMCAR TRUST

WHERE: BARRETT EAST ARENA

WHEN: This Saturday, 5pm cocktails, Buffet Dinner 6:30.

COST: $25.00 per person

Please come and join us on Saturday, May 1st, for the annual LMHA year end party, a night to honor the volunteers of our association as well as raise funds for the SAMCAR Trust.

This year’s proceeds are going to one of our own, a family of the Leitrim Minor Hockey Association. A mother of one of our novice players who was diagnosed with a rare disease called “Multiple System Atrophy - (MSA)”.

This family was brought to the attention of the LMHA by a member of the Executive who knows this family personally and received a heart wrenching email from a family member seeking help in providing 24-hour care for her sister. Part of the proceeds will be allocated to building a ramp for wheelchair access to the home, as well as help reduce the burden of 24-hour care.

Evening highlights include a silent auction, raffle, door prizes and a draw for an all-inclusive one week vacation to Jamaica, courtesy of Sunset Beach Resorts and Winchester Travel. 50 per cent of all tickets sold on this evening will go the SAMCAR Trust.

TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED FROM THE CANTEEN AT A COST OF $25.00 EACH.

All in, All Red....till next season....

Another Senators season in the books and it was fun while it lasted. For next season, I'm preparing a short list of improvements that I plan to submit to Mr. Melnyk:

1. A new HD scoreboard

2. Replacing the popcorn at Scotiabank Place with the kettle chips that suiteholders get.

3. Replacing Sparty's silly string with mustard for Leaf fans. No stain remover on the planet can ever get rid of a mustard stain.

4. Ushers forcing fans who want to leave early back to their seats (unless they have to get home to a babysitter).

5. A gigantic dome for the parking lot, or make the team play only road games in January.

6. The ability for the PA announcer to add "are you kidding me ref?" to a bogus call on the Sens.

7. New intermission contest idea: Zamboni smash up derby.

8. If the Sens are losing, Sparty is allowed to aim the master blaster at the visiting bench.

9. Sandy Sharkey would like the imported beers priced the same as domestic....better chance of the Sens winning 4 straight Cups, but she wanted to be on this list.

10. An NHL all star game. Carolina has it next season, but you think a team that has been in the league almost 20 years could eventually get one.

Matt Carkner day in Ottawa

WHEREAS this is the 23rd day of the 4th month in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

WHEREAS the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club did overcome the Pittsburgh Penguins on the 22nd day of the 4th month.

WHEREAS many of the goals were dis-allowed, then allowed, then dis-allowed, then allowed.

WHEREAS Ottawa Senators goaltender Pascal Leclaire of Repentigny did obstruct 56 shots.

WHEREAS had Pascal Leclaire been from Ottawa, we would have included him in this for sure.

WHEREAS Matt Carkner of Winchester, Ontario Canada was born close enough to Ottawa to claim him as one of ours.

WHEREAS Ottawa Senators Matt Carkner did, after 107 minutes and 6 seconds of hockey, fired the shot which would annihilate the Pittsburgh Penguins to win the game at 11:41 pm, 4-3 the final score.

THEREFORE we, Stuntman and the Shark of 93.9 BOB fm do hereby proclaim the day of April 23rd, 2010 as MATT CARKNER day in the city of Ottawa, and as such, we give everyone the day off!

Hands free is safer right?

Watch this presentation and tell me if this makes driving any easier. I drove a GM for a few years and could never get the phone number right when I used my Onstar calling feature. I love gadgets, but if I can't figure out how to turn on the radio in my car in 3 seconds, I'm looking elsewhere.

Have fun with this one...

I'm so glad youtube was created, because without it only those in a certain part of the world would be able to watch gems like this. Not really sure what they're singing about and it's 2 and a half minutes of your life you'll never get back, but I guarantee you'll forward this to a co-worker. Around the 20 second mark we're introduced to his sidekick (black suit and beard) who's dancing moves could make a comeback this summer. Enjoy this time waster...

I would've said yes, then ran...

My photoshop skills are lacking but Sens fans are loving Andy Sutton after game 2.

If you didn't see it, a scribe from Pittsburgh was asking about Sutton's hit on Jordan Leopold.

Alfie at 1000...

Saturday night the Sens will be celebrating Captain Daniel Alfredsson's 1000th game (technically by Sat game 1002) and there's a big pre-game ceremony planned. I've been lucky enough to be around Alfie his entire career and have always admired how he handles the pressure, celebrity status and responsibilities of being an NHL captain in a hockey mad city. Anytime I've asked him for something a little outside his comfort zone, he's handled it with the same professionalism as he does on the ice.

When the Sens were off to Sweden last season, I approached Daniel to play along where I would look silly and he would have the last laugh.

Congrats Daniel, on 1000 games in the NHL and all with the Ottawa Senators. All things Alfie can be found here.

Coming soon to a theatre near you....

Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. is in town filming "Sacrifice" and Sandy and I got the chance at two seconds of fame by being cast as extras in the movie.

Since we have no formal training, we were given the very difficult role of playing members of the media. Our scene involves us running down the stairs with a bunch of people and Cuba running in the opposite direction, almost knocking over Sandy and I in the process. Since we've never shared the screen with an Oscar winner, we weren't sure what to expect. I've heard stories that you can't talk to some big stars and some of them don't even want you to make eye contact with them, but on this day he couldn't have been more gracious with all of us.

In this shot, Cuba (center) is rehearsing a fight scene.

Thank you to the gang from Zed Filmworks and Ilona from Smyth Casting for the incredible opportunity.

For more on Cuba's shoot yesterday, here's a story from the Ottawa Citizen.

This is why Sandy won't be our next Governor General...

A few weeks ago the Main Street Cellar in Manotick hosted a wine tasting for the "Stuntman Stu Red Line Merlot" with proceeds to the Sens foundation. My partner weekday mornings Sandy Sharkey, dropped by to support the cause and posed for some photos. This one ended up on the front page of the Manotick Messenger. Needless to say, she's horrified and wants the folks at the Messenger to tape a nicer photo of her on every issue of the paper.

And, no..this wasn't Sandy's reaction after trying the wine. The rest of the photos from the event can be found here.
